Socktober is generally held during World Mission Month in October, however, anytime in September and through to November will work well. In fact, some schools are organising outside of October, to coincide with reflection days.
We recommend Socktober for Years 7 and 8, as a Mission Day experience and is excellent for Primary School students. You may consider Years 5 and 6 participating in larger schools.
Please consider updating your Fundraising page to your child’s name, if possible, at Step 2, as this will help others to identify your child when donating using the unique Socktober platform.
A Mission Day is a great way to engage your students in an holistic understanding mission, in an interactive and engage way. Catholic Mission’s schools engagement specifically focussing on ‘head’, ‘heart’ and ‘hands’. This includes our 360 virtual reality experience, #shoestories and of course the Socktober Challenge where children learn to make a recycled ‘Sockball’ as if they were sitting alongside a friend from a developing country and then shoot goals in a unique way of bringing mission to life in your school.
Several schools participating in Socktober are utilising the initiative as part of their mission curriculum engaging students in an interactive way. Some Catholic Mission offices are also able to compliment your curriculum with mission workshops for students, which can also be held during Mission Day.
