Our Vision

Through excellence in education, our young women become critical and creative thinkers with a sense of social responsibility and discipleship.

Our Mission

Compassion – we put into practice an empathic understanding of the individual needs and cultural heritage of others.

Integrity - we communicate with sincerity and undertake ethical conduct.

Excellence – we aim to achieve the highest possible standard in all endeavours.

Getting Involved

Fundraising

Each child is to be sponsored for 5 attempts at scoring goals and ‘Socking it to Poverty’. For example: $1/attempt = $5, and 10 sponsors at $1/attempt = $50.

Timeframe

The Socktober Challenge can take place during your Mission Day activities or progressively during PE classes during the month of October. This model allows for flexibility. A soccer club may also like to take up the challenge as an end of season fundraiser.

Mission Day

The Socktober Challenge is part of Catholic Mission's schools engagement program. It includes our 360 degree virtual reality goggles to experience mission in 3D, as well as our #shoestories initiative. Hence, a Mission Day is a great engagement for your school and could easily tie in with what your school is already undertaking for World Mission Month and Anti-Poverty Week in October.

Before Socktober

Students make a recycled ‘Sockball’ to understand how children in developing countries play the game of soccer. Students engage with the ‘Sockball'’ guided by teachers to build an understanding of developing world issues.

The Socktober Challenge

Students wear their favourite team’s soccer jerseys and kick goals to ‘Sock it to Poverty’!
Each child kicks 5 balls – penalty shoot-out style and is sponsored for 5 attempts using the on-line Socktober platform.

One goal attempt will be played with the ‘Sockball’ made by students giving a real-life understanding of soccer in developing countries.

The goal keeper is an integral part of the game and can join in the fun to ‘save’ goals. Invite your school principal, REC, parish priest, mayor or local soccer star to be your goal keeper. The positioning of the child to the goals will be dependent upon age group. 3 positions suggested: Infants (5 metres), Primary (7 metres) and High School students (10 metres).

Timing - it takes approximately 20-30 minutes to play for a class of 25 students.
